Exhibition 7

Exhibition 7 Curation assisted by Janet Holmes à Court for Autism West.

Intro

In 1955, Arne Jacobsen set a new standard for chair design when he created Series 7™ produced by world renowned Danish furniture manufacturer Fritz Hansen, the Series 7™ is the most sold stackable chair in history.

In honour of this year’s 60th anniversary of visionary designer Arne Jacobsen’s Series 7™ chair, Perth based furniture showroom Mobilia (in collaboration with local charity Autism West) is inviting 7 Western Australian artists to add their own person touch to the design icon for Exhibition 7. Janet Holmes a Court is kindly assisting in the curation of the Exhibition.

The unique pieces will be displayed at Mobilia’s annual Design Circus Exhibition at the State Theatre. The pieces will also go to auction at the Design Circus Cocktail party with proceeds from each sale going to Autism West.

Stay tuned for more announcements including the list of local artists selected.....

Mobilia presents Exhibition 7 for Autism West.

Exhibition 7 is a celebration of an international design icon, local artistic talent, live music and an awesome award winning local wine maker all for a great cause.

With curation assisted by Janet Holmes A Court, the Exhibition 7 will combine seven carefully chosen Western Australian artists and the design icon (and most sold chair in history), the Series 7 designed by Arne Jacobsen for Fritz Hansen 60 years ago.

These unique pieces will be auctioned at the Exhibition 7 on the evening with all proceeds going to Autism West.

The Series 7™

The pressure moulded veneer chair is a further development of the classic Ant™ chair also designed by the renowned Arne Jacobsen. The four-legged stackable chair can be seen as the culmination of the use of the lamination technique. A technique refined to perfection during the Twenties and Thirties by Søren C. Hansen, the grandson of the founder, of Fritz Hansen.

The visionary Arne Jacobsen exploited the possibilities of lamination to perfection resulting in the iconic shape of the chair. The combination of form and function have been so successful in the ‘Series 7’ that the originals number in the millions, and in a nod to its popularity it’s been reproduced in the billions across the globe.

A beautiful workhorse, copied but never mastered, the craftsmanship of simplicity is never easy.

The Designer: Arne Jacobsen (1902 - 1971)

The cooperation between Arne Jacobsen and Fritz Hansen dates back to 1934. But in was in 1952 the break-through came with the Ant™ chair. It was succeeded by the Series 7™ in 1955.

This propelled his and Fritz Hansen's names into furniture history. Arne Jacobsen was very productive both as an architect and as a designer. At the end of the 50s Arne Jacobsen designed the Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, and for that project the Egg™, the Swan™, the Swan™ sofa and Series 3300™. Arne Jacobsen was and is an admired and outstanding designer. While the significance of Arne Jacobsen's buildings was less appreciated, his furniture and other design work have become national and international heritage.

The Series 7 Theatre

The nine new colours will be on display for the very first time in Western Australia in the 'Series 7 Theatre' inside of the Design Circus.

Xavi Manosa: Guess who is back.

Xavi Manosa : Xavi is a Potter 2.0

Mobilia presents Xavi Manosa: Xavi is a Potter 2.0.

Xavier Mañosa founded his studio Apparatu just five years ago and, in that short space of time, he has become one of the most up and coming ceramicists of his generation. When he took that step, he was living in Berlin. Perhaps that distance helped him to finally dedicate himself to what he had seen his parents doing during his childhood and which he had rejected, as an act of defiance, during his training as an industrial designer. In his case, the most fascinating part is probably that it is a combination of the two – his perspective from a distance and his eagerness to experiment linked to his knowledge of his trade, drawn from his home background.

Until 2009, Mañosa had his creative base in Berlin, from where he returned to the family workshop, located in an old industrial estate in Barcelona, where ceramic products for the building industry used to be produced. Nowadays, it is actually a focal point for antiques, which gives it a most inspiring atmosphere.

What fundamentally distinguishes Mañosa as a modern-day ceramicist is his boldness when it comes to combining different materials and to exploring new forms of expression.

Pieces by Apparatu have been exhibited at contemporary design fairs and festivals in London, Frankfurt, Saint- Étienne, Tokyo, New York, México and Stockholm, Australia, as well as in Madrid and Barcelona.

Xavi Manosa: Xavi is a Potter 2.0 is a short discussion on what Xavi has been doing since his visit last year, his latest collections for some of the world's greatest brands, the launch of his Fang collection at the Milan Furniture fair 2015 and more.

Places are limited so book now !
